Wildlife Update

arriving late this season was a shame but the wildlife seems to be behind the usual time. The Swallow has only just arrived and the Jacdaw Crow are still collecting material for the nest. But it looks like the Tawny Owl is well into the breeding process with the first young one seen last night.

Saying that the Kingfisher seems to be well behind and not feeding like you would expect at the end of April. I see the first young fledge around 1st May so it will need more observations this week to see if both adults are busy on the river. I have had a fantastic 2 weeks seeing the Red Fox, Roe Deer and Buzzard all in image distance with some great shots to go to my collection.

The Red Fox being my best image of the year so far

Then spending time on the river i came across the Kingfisher and after a few visits i managed to get a few images, which are not the best and i hope to get better when i visit next, as i dont think the young have fledged yet.

So with the first few weeks on site a real good start it just got better when i found out that a Barn Owl Nest Box i built and placed up on the moors in my mates barn has got a adult bringing voles in, means they could have young in it.

I will be updating as i find more birds and animals on site and on my travels

The Wildlife Photographer

You get up early, 5.30 your out on the road hoping a bird or animal will make your day. The Pied Wagtail with its Tail never stopping. Yes it’s a small bird like the Grey Wagtail, and just as nice with great black and grey plumage. This one was collecting materials for her nest. And as I drove past it let me get close to it.

Just as I put my camera down to drive I looked across to my left and a male Phesant stood proud on a grassy mound.

I parked up and went to look over a stone wall and a nice Curlew was making its way across the field, the image was cropped heavy but still makes a nice image.

In the afternoon I went to the river and sat waiting for the Kingfisher but there were no sightings. So I got on my bike and went back to my van, but on the way back I was surprised by a Kestrel swooping down in front of me. I stopped my bike swung my camera round and got this image of it eating what ever it caught. Wings spread out to protect its kill.

So I arrived back at my van sat down with Ruth and had a brew, as I sat there a Lessor Redpoll landed on my New feeder and I quickly got this image of the Redpoll eating the sunflower.

Hello Blackie

Let me know if the Tawny comes looking g for me.

The little Field mouse is so great it was named twice.

A shy mouse with lightning fast reactions. It has large back feet which enables it to leap back and forth quickly.

Its tail is as long as its head and body

It helps the woodland by by storing seeds and berries which germinate growing again helping the woodland and forest. It uses old birds nest to store food

I was lucky enough to have this little chap outside my back window.

The mouse is very important to the Owl, lack of seeds and berries in the wood has a serious effect on the Owl population.

Sparrow

We meet again little Sparrow the time I put your food out is here, you wait patiently in the Holly tree sitting on the splintered branch. Your family watch you from my rooftop waiting for the sign, All is clear.

The lens cap comes off the power is turned on focus, turn your litte brown head for me. O you are so beautiful, no bright colours of red, yellow, green, or blue but different shades of brown. Coffee colour beige and black. Little beak glossy, tiny grey feet.

Male House Sparrow.

You are the reason I look through the camera capturing your beauty, as you sing a song. Your call now can be heard in my living room as my Bella African Grey Parrot mimics your call to perfection.

You have a another species I looked for many years, I was told you are in decline just like many other species that suffer through the Human Race. Your image is printed and sits in my Best Photo album and you will be a star in your own right as my friends see you close up and see for the first time your feather detail.

The food is out see you in the morning my little Sparrow.
